Fibromyalgia

Holistic Health

Fibromyalgia is a disease characterized by widespread pain with multiple tender points all over the body. It affects approximately 5 million Americans, predominately women, though men can also suffer from the condition.

There is a myriad of associated symptoms, such as:

- Morning Stiffness,

- Numbness or Tingling

- Fatigue

- Insomnia

- Headaches

- Difficulty with thinking or memory (brain fog)

& Depression.

Drugs commonly prescribed by rheumatologists for Fibromyalgia include Lyrica (pregabalin) and Cymbalta (duloxetine). These drugs will result in some benefits in a minority of people but are associated with various side effects and are not treating the condition's underlying causes.

Successfully treating Fibromyalgia requires a thorough evaluation of the multiple causative factors that we now know to be associated with this condition and addressing those factors in an effective, comprehensive way. For example, all Fibromyalgia patients in one study have been found to have SIBO (Small Intestinal Bowel Overgrowth), and successful treatment of the condition resulted in a reduction of symptoms.

Fibromyalgia should always be considered as a potential root cause of many chronic urologic diseases.

In a research study called "Pelvic Floor and Urinary Distress in Women with Fibromyalgia", women with Fibromyalgia reported significantly bothersome pelvic floor and urinary symptoms. Results showed that the worse the impact of Fibromyalgia was, the worse bladder and bowel symptoms were.

Individual therapy is also available if you prefer one-on-one help. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one approach for managing stressful situations.
